The Guardians of Temples

 

In the tradition of the great folk tales — of One Thousand and One Nights, where palaces hold secrets and mythical creatures stand between the mortal world and something beyond it — there have always been guardians.

This one is unlike any other. A winged leopard in a knight's armour, draped in crimson, resting in the golden heart of an ancient temple. The vaulted arches rise around it, carved in patterns of extraordinary delicacy. Birds move through the light. Red flowers push up between the tiles. And the guardian watches on, still and certain, as it has always done..
